[P3Dv5] Add-On.xml Issues

Post by Sveiny » Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:16 pm

Hello XHT Labs,

I am having a few issues with add-on.xml. I am aware I have sort of modified your original install, however I am not a fan of having files everywhere, and I want to keep it in my structure.

So here is my issue.

The APControl is running, but the scenery is still not working correctly.
What I have done is following:

Moved the files from C:\ to my F:\ Where I have all of my scenery stuff.
I have then made/copied the xml file that came with the install and corrected the paths.

I run them in two .xmls still

I understand this is my doing and I am modifying the installation. So I understand if this is something that you don't want to support.

Any help/suggestions is appreciated.

Best regards,
Sveinung

Hi,

the issue is most likely in the Airport Controller, because it is not designed to be moved. Unfortunately it's an older software which was designed in a time when placing addons outside of the sim folder was not a thing.

The only thing which can be changed is the location of the scenery itself, which you are choosing during the installation.

So to fix it, the simplest thing you can do is to reinstall the scenery.

Hello,

Well I guess that answers it then.
Due to the fact this scenery uses the ApController, I can't keep my stuff organized how I like it and it needs to stay on the C:\ drive. :(

Thanks for the very quick reply tho. :)

Sorry that I couldn't help more.

However the APController itself takes around 38 MB, so we thought that no-one would mind.

Well thanks for trying anyways.

And it is not that I mind the 38MB it takes on my C:\, it is the fact it is on my C:\ where the scenery is not. I like to keep everything the same place.

So what I do with everything is that I keep everything possible on my F:\ Drive where I have my P3D stuff, and more or less everything out of my root folder of P3D, and the stuff that isn't add-on.xml from before, I will try and make it add-on.xml myself.

I guess I have a bit to much OCD for these kind of things :P
Some people are just happy to click "next, next, next, finish" and just let it go where it wants, but I guess I am just a bit different! :P

Also while I have you here, does the Airport Controller need to have its own .xml, or could I throw it in the one for the scenery?

To answer my own question, no. It does not.
Actually I can't even have the add-on.xml where I would like to have it.
It appears to me it has to stay in Documents\Prepar3D v5 Add-ons....

However the scenery does work this way...

Anyways, thanks for the support today.
This can be marked as SOLVED ect....

Best regards,
Sveiny

Hi,

sorry, I have missed your latest response.

AirportController has it's own addon.xml, however you can simply copy the relevant sections of the XML and paste it into the Mega Airport Prague addon.xml.

Sorry that the scenery is not flexible as you would like, however this scenery was made in 2016 and we took in mind the options which were possible then. And from that time our studio is in limited operation. Changes like this would require an extensive rework we were simply not able to do. Even having a P3D v4 and P3D v5 versions was a big success, because we are working on the scenery in our free time, and our programmer doesn't have much of that time :-/
